Integrated workflow converts DVB-TTML subtitles for OTT delivery
Capella Systems and SyncWords today announced an integrated live-streaming workflow that brings AI-generated captions and multilingual subtitles to existing broadcast and OTT infrastructure.
The solution combines SyncWords’ real-time AI captioning and translation with Capella Systems’ Cambria Stream live encoder. SyncWords receives a live SRT video stream and generates same-language captions or translated subtitles. The resulting SRT stream can include multiple DVB-TTML subtitles and audio tracks. Cambria Stream ingests the SRT stream, creates an adaptive-bitrate video ladder, and converts the DVB-TTML subtitles to WebVTT for OTT delivery. Viewers can then select from available subtitle languages in supported streaming applications and players.

The workflow supports live captioning and translation across a wide range of languages, including languages that can be challenging for traditional captioning systems, such as Greek, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other non-Latin-script languages. Multiple subtitle tracks can be delivered simultaneously for accessibility, localization, and international distribution without requiring broadcasters to replace their existing SRT-based contribution workflows.
