Capella Systems, a Silicon Valley leader in transcoding and live streaming software, today announced that its flagship products—Cambria FTC, its flexible VOD transcoder, and Cambria Stream, its live-encoding engine—can run on Akamai Cloud Accelerated Compute Instances, delivering exceptional video quality, industry-leading performance, and dramatic cost savings for cloud-based media workflows.
Powered by NETINT’s Quadra T1U Video Processing Units (VPUs), Akamai Accelerated Compute Instances – the first and only cloud-based VPUs – brings accelerated transcoding performance to the cloud. This eliminates the need for on-premises infrastructure while enabling ultra-efficient, scalable workflows. Cambria running on Akamai (Netint Quadra T1ux 1 Medium) can deliver 7 channels simultaneously – each producing 5 adaptive bitrate reeditions for a total of 35 broadcast-quality H.264 output streams validated by VMAF quality matrices.
Compared to CPU based cloud encoding, this configuration achieves up to 7 x higher channel density per node and can reduce live multi-bitrate transcoding costs by over 90% versus other SaaS-based cloud encoding services.
“The integration of Cambria with Akamai Accelerated Compute Instances brings accelerated transcoding performance directly to the cloud, allowing media companies to reduce operational costs, scale effortlessly and deliver exceptional quality video” said Ikuyo Yamada, CEO of Capella Systems.
“Cambria running on Akamai Cloud offers access to video encoding on the only cloud-based VPUs in the industry, and all the performance and cost advantages that come with it,” said Dan Lawrence, Vice President, Cloud Computing at Akamai. “By deploying Cambria on Akamai Cloud, Capella is giving broadcasters and streaming providers more choice in their media workflow components without locking in to cloud service providers that they compete with.”
IBC attendees can see Cambria FTC and Cambria Stream in action at 7D.37, where live demos will compare encoding speed, capacity, and visual quality, and show how Capella’s solutions can transform video delivery strategies.
