After years spent helping broadcasters, studios and platforms steer through ever-evolving video workflows, I find myself right back where it all began—and the timing couldn’t be better.
Back in the late 2000s, while helping Red Bee Media roll out Rhozet Carbon Coder, I was so impressed by its simplicity and performance that I soon joined the company, shortly after its acquisition by Harmonic. In the years since, I’ve devoted more than 15 years to solving complex media-workflow problems across EMEA—including a 6 year spell at Dolby, where I managed Hybrik after Dolby acquired it in 2018 and took cloud-based transcoding to new heights.
Now I’m with Capella Systems, and in many ways, it feels like coming full circle. The tools are different—leaner, faster, smarter—but the mission is the same: build rock-solid software that delivers flexibility, performance and control.
What this next chapter means for me
Personally, it’s about going deep again. I love working with teams that prize engineering elegance over marketing flash, and Capella’s products—Cambria FTC, Cambria Live and Cambria Stream—hit that sweet spot. They do exactly what they promise, without the bloat or surprise costs that have crept into the industry over the years.
Professionally, I’m excited to help more EMEA customers rethink what’s possible with transcoding and live streaming—whether that’s simplifying file-based workflows, replacing ageing on-prem gear or moving select workloads to the cloud without committing everything to it.
What I see in the European market
The region is incredibly diverse. Some organisations are cloud-forward and agile; others run on decades of legacy systems and need solutions that play nicely with what’s already there. But one theme stands out: a demand for flexibility, transparency and control.
Unlike the United States, where “cloud-first” is often assumed, many European customers favour hybrid-cloud architectures that blend the strengths of cloud platforms with the stability of existing on-premises systems. This tailored approach lets organisations maximise past investments while reducing operational complexity.
There’s also a growing push for cost transparency. European organisations are rightly wary of unpredictable cloud bills and want efficient tools that don’t require a fleet of DevOps engineers to keep running. That’s where Capella shines; simple, powerful software that adapts to each customer’s preferred environment—whether that’s a single box in a rack or a fleet of cloud instances.
If you’re rethinking your video workflows—replacing legacy systems, expanding cloud capabilities or just tired of overpaying for under-whelming software—let’s talk. I’ve probably been where you are, and together we can make things a whole lot simpler.
